St. Joseph Church, Imperial, Missouri

St. Joseph's Church is the first part of a master plan for new parish facilities. The parish is in a rapidly growing area and has outgrown its 100 year old site.

The worship space is designed for a present capacity of 450, with provisions to expand to 900 in the future. The church within a church concept consists of two concentric octagons. The inner octagon is the present space. The outer octagon contains ancillary spaces which will be relocated elsewhere when other elements of the master plan are constructed, allowing the seating area to expand to the outer walls.

Eight laminated wood arches form a dome over the inner church space, accentuating the entire community of worshippers rather than the sanctuary only.
