St. Boniface Church, Edwardsville, Illinois |
|
The parish of St. Boniface had outgrown their current church in downtown Edwardsville. A new church was needed to seat 900 persons, nearly tripling the capacity of the existing church. The 130 year old traditional gothic structure was seen as a landmark in the community and weighed heavily on their desire for a new building that matched the historic church. Stauder Architecture designed the new church with faithful reproduction of many of the details of the existing building. The new building was connected to the existing church with an operable wall between to allow the original space to serve as overflow for large services. The project also included a large gathering area, eucharistic reservation chapel and a social hall in the lower level.
